Resilience, the unexpected gift of this pandemic

Dr. Saad Uakkas

For the first nine months of the COVID-19 pandemic, Saad Uakkas, a final year medical student in Morocco, worked as a doctor in the emergency room of a regional hospital in his country. In that time, he came to see up close how the disruptions caused by the pandemic have made so many people vulnerable in so many ways, particularly the youth. He sees this, much more than the economic and social effects, as an issue that needs urgent addressing. Saad’s perspective has been validated by research done by multiple multilateral organisations, including WHO, UNESCO, and ILO.

Saad is a young health activist in Moroccan. He served as the coordinator International Federation of Medical Students Associations’ COVID campaign. Through his work, he has spoken at over 54 conferences in 21 countries.
